Mission
The Betty Jane Schuss Charitable Trust
invests in programs in the Roaring Fork community
that strengthen children’s health and welfare and promote cultural integration.

Values
- We honor Jack and Betty Schuss’ intent to help the community by investing in children, particularly needy and young children, and by promoting integration between the Anglo and Latino cultures through education and recreation.
- We promote a multicultural, integrated community by focusing on the second generation of immigrants.
- We fund programs or projects that encourage the integration of children, and we want to explore collaborating with existing programs that do this through recreation.
- We focus on what creates a healthy community for all residents.
- We fund small things that bolster a sense of community.
- Our service area is the Aspen to Parachute region with an emphasis on Basalt, Carbondale and Glenwood Springs.
- We do not fund programs that the schools should be paying for. We will fund ancillary programs that the schools can not fund.
- We do not fund entrepreneurial efforts as there are other funders in the Valley for whom that is their mission.
- Our primary focus is on children and their families, and Latino integration into the community but we wish to retain an element of flexibility in our funding decisions.
- We will be responsible stewards of the Trust funds.
- We will hold the organizations we fund accountable for their use of our funds.
